Becks Out as Fabio Names First Squad

David Beckham has been left out of Fabio Capello’s first England squad, ending any hopes he had of claiming his 100th England cap against Switzerland on Wednesday at Wembley.

Beckham has hoped to become only the fifth England player of all time to reach the landmark but concerns over his fitness have prompted Capello to omit the former captain from the side, although the Italian has insisted that the door remains open for Beckham if he performs well for LA Galaxy.

The 30-man squad includes two new caps, Aston Villa pair Gabriel Agbonlahor and Curtis Davies who join Villa teammate Ashley Young whilst a number of regular names have been dropped from the side.

There’s no place for Alan Smith, Phil Neville, Jermain Defoe or Robert Green whilst captain John Terry has been ruled out through injury.

Other surprise inclusions include Matthew Upson, Glen Johnson and Nicky Shorey whilst Wayne Bridge and Peter Crouch are both included despite struggling to get into the first team at Chelsea and Liverpool respectively.
