Fabio Capello’s campaign to learn English in time for his first meeting with the national team players goes on, with the Italian taking a crash course in both English language and English football.
The Italian, who will first open the door to his office at Soho Square on January 7th, had promised to learn English in time for his first meeting with the England players.
But the 61-year-old has now taken on an added challenge.
Capello has vowed to study every single Premier League game played over the Christmas and New Year period as he aims to pick out the best talent that England has to offer.
The former Real Madrid boss, with the help of his backroom team, will get tapes of every Premier League game played over the holiday period sent to his home in Spain to allow his to study the Premier League and the players that could be part of his new team.
But whilst Capello will now be able to use the commentary of Richard Keys, Andy Gray and John Motson as a reference point for his progress; he may have some trouble understanding some of more unusual terms that are broadcast to British television sets, so here are a few phrases to help:
“Prendete un arco figlio, prendere un inchino!” = “Take a bow son, take a bow!”
“Non salvare quanti!” = “You don’t save those!”
“Fuori dal cassetto superiore!” = “Out of the top drawer”
“Che dramma qui!” = “What drama here!”
